Seeing and Being

As an international student studying at BYU-Hawaii and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the things I see around me have a big impact on how I behave. When I see violence, it reminds me that I should promote peace and avoid hurting others because nobody likes to be hurt. Acts of kindness, like when someone helps another person, inspire me to be kind and helpful too. But when I see racism, especially because I'm Asian, it makes me more aware of the importance of standing up against discrimination and treating everyone fairly, no matter where they come from or what they look like. The teachings of the church also reinforce the values of love, acceptance, and respect for everyone. So, in simple words, what I see really matters. It affects how I act and I want to be someone who is kind, inclusive, and stands against prejudice and violence.
