The Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) is something that helped me a lot while I was at the Missionary Training Center. My MTC teacher, Brother Smith, was really good at using it. He used this thing called scaffolding to make it easier for me to learn Cantonese and become a better missionary. He knew how to help me and the other missionaries in my district learn by giving us just the right amount of help and support. He also understood what each of us needed and made sure we could reach our full potential. From my personal experience, as a non-native English speaker learning Cantonese, Brother Smith knew it could be tough for me. So, he broke down the language into smaller parts and taught me at a pace I could handle. He gave me just the right amount of help and support in my ZPD, so I could overcome language barriers and communicate effectively. Brother Smith also knew I didn't know much about deep religious concepts. But he patiently introduced them to me, expanding my ZPD and giving me a strong foundation for my missionary work. His belief in me and his encouragement helped me face challenges with confidence. Brother Smith's teaching didn't just help me learn, but it also helped me grow as a person and in my faith. He was a great example of how the ZPD can make a big difference in learning and personal development.

I am also aware that sometimes, the ZPD and the way it works might not be as effective. One reason is when the teacher doesn't really know what each student needs. They might not understand our struggles or what we find difficult. This makes it harder for them to give us the right kind of help. Another thing is when the learning environment isn't supportive. It's important to have a classroom where we feel comfortable asking questions and getting help. This helps us to make the most out of the ZPD and the support we receive, so that we can learn and improve even more.

Hello Cherry, I agree that being a teacher should know the students' need becauae we can find th ebest way of learning for them. Thank you for sharing :)
That is so true! In the mission, MTC teachers are helping us to prepare in to go to the field. I was taught as well to talk to everyone because of those teachers. - Aries
